About

Who builds PackDev and what the numbers rest on

A packaging calculator with a name behind it: who makes it, which standards it computes against and where, and what happens to the data you enter.

packdev beta — packaging engineering calculation tool. Results are based on standard formulas (McKee, BCT, axle loads) and do not replace lab testing or technologist responsibility.

Who makes it

Konstantin Avramenko

Packaging engineer and software developer, author of PackDev

Fifteen years in packaging development and software engineering, including packaging development at Mars. PackDev is the tool built from that practice: the calculations engineers do by hand, in spreadsheets and in expensive suites, in one place and with the reasoning exposed. Nothing here is taken on trust: every formula, multiplier and default is written out on the method page, with units and a worked example.

Named standards and where they are applied

A standard is named here only together with the place in the product that uses it. Two are listed for what PackDev does not calculate, so nobody assumes a check that is not there.

  • McKee formula (simplified)

    Applied

Box compression strength (BCT) from the edge crush strength of the board (ECT), the wall thickness and the box perimeter. Used on the box strength page, in the packaging solution and as the column height limit of the palletizer.

  • TAPPI T 804

    Applied

The box compression test that defines BCT. PackDev estimates that number; it does not run or replace the test.

  • ISO 3037

    Applied

The edgewise crush test (ECT). GOST R 52901 and DIN 55468-1 state the ECT of their grades by this method, and that ECT is what the McKee formula takes.

  • GOST R 52901

    Applied

Corrugated board grades T21–T27 and P31–P37 with their minimum ECT: the GOST table of the board catalogue.

  • DIN 55468-1

    Applied

Corrugated board sorts 1.10–1.50 and 2.20–2.70 with their ECT: the DIN table of the board catalogue.

  • FEFCO code

    Applied

Box constructions by code (0201, 0427, 0713 …) in the FEFCO reference and in the packaging solution.

  • ISO 6780

    Applied

    Pallet footprints: the 1200 × 800, 1200 × 1000 and 1219 × 1016 mm presets of the palletizer and of the pallets-per-order estimate.

  • EPAL

    Applied

EUR pallet presets (EUR 1, EUR 2, EUR 6) with their deck height and rated load; the rated load is the default payload cap of the pallet.

  • EN 12195-1

    Not calculated

Load securing forces (lashing, friction). Not calculated: the truck page checks axle loads and payload, not how the load is secured.

  • EUMOS 40509

    Not calculated

Rigidity test of a load unit under acceleration. Not calculated: it is a physical test; PackDev checks how boxes rest on the layer below, not how the wrapped pallet holds together.

Your data

Privacy is part of the product, not a footnote. What holds today:

  • We do not sell your data, show ads, or use your work data to train machine-learning models.
  • No session recording and no advertising trackers. Page views are counted without cookies.
  • Our own usage log records which tool ran, when, on which page, and the main dimensions of a calculation, to spot repeated runs. Project and product names are not in it.
  • Works in the browser: nothing to install, on any operating system.
